Power Dynamics in Therapeutic Relationships: Coercion on the Sly? Part 1
June 26 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Event Navigation

Power dynamics can be difficult to identify and recognize in service settings. However, it is important to recognize that power imbalances can exist even when the intention is not to be coercive. To mitigate the potential for harm, it is necessary to create structures which allow for better communication and understanding of the roles and responsibilities involved in providing support. This requires creating an environment which encourages open dialogue and mutual respect between those providing and receiving services. Additionally, it is important to ensure that those providing support are aware of the power dynamics at play and are prepared to handle them in a respectful and professional manner.
Attendees will gain an understanding of the power dynamics within therapeutic relationships and their potential to cause harm to neurodivergent learners. They will also learn how to address and mitigate these potential harms.
