Introduction to Child-Led ABA

June 21 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

$20.00 – $30.00

Event Speaker

Maggie Haraburda

Overview

A person-centered or child-led approach to Neurodivergent affirming practices is an important concept to consider when working with learners. This approach aims to move away from compliance and towards connection and values, which can often require a shift in thinking and practice. In ABA sessions, a child-led approach might look like creating an environment that is tailored to the individual’s needs and preferences, as well as allowing them to take the lead in activities. However, this shift from compliance to connection and values can often be difficult to implement, and therefore it is important to get team members and supervisees on board with this approach. Attendees of this event will learn how to make this shift, as well as other important objectives.

Learners can expect to gain an understanding of the following:

  • The science behind the significant of taking a Child-Led approach to ABA
  • Applicable ways to begin to make the shift away from compliance based strategies to connection based
  • How to communicate with supervisors, therapeutic staff and caregivers about why this shift is recommended
