ACT and Beyond for the Behavior Analyst

Note: Enrollment to this course will be closed off at 5pm EST on Friday, July 16th. The recordings of this Practicum will not be available after the sessions, due to personal exercises that attendees will engage in.

We’re often confronted by families and clients that demonstrate a lot of resistance and get caught up in the problems they face. Approaching clients like this from a pathological view of human behavior can often make life harder for both families and practitioners! What if there was a different way? What if we could change our lens as practitioners from one of elimination of behaviors to one of construction? Increasing our psychological flexibility through the use of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Non-Linear Contingency Analysis can lead to empathetic responding that enhances the practitioner’s ability to perform well across a variety of challenging circumstances.

This intensive 6-week live course provides behavior analysts with the opportunity to dive deeply into ACT and Non-linear Contingency Analysis through an experiential group training that focuses on the development of applied skills.

This course includes 2 hours of in-person discussion and learning in addition to weekly readings that emphasize and expand on principles taught each week.

By the end of this course, the participants will be able to:

  • Identify and utilize tools for increasing psychological flexibility
  • Articulate components of ACT in behavior analytic terms
  • Identify client indicators of readiness for ACT intervention
  • Identify behavioral inflexibility in their clients, generate ACT-consistent strategies, and know when to use them
  • State the behavioral-contingency functional relation and identify how emotions can be used as contingency descriptors
  • Conduct a constructional questionnaire and utilize data-collection procedures in the form of daily event logs
  • Identify a non-linear functional contingency relation by using a combination of a client questionnaire and daily event log

Course will run 7-9PM EST for 6 weeks, 2 hours a week.
